the river and finally selected a 20 acre site on the Canoe Creek in what is now Pleasant Twp. Sec 27 to build their home.

The Federal census of 1856 for Pleasant Twp., Winneshiek Co. lists the whole family still at home. They listed themselves as living there for 2 years. The census lists Jacob, 38; Susan, 38; Nicholas, 20; Elizabeth, 18; Mary, 16; Christina, 14; John, 12; Barbara, 10; and Edmund, 6; all listed as being born in PA.

On 13 Jan 1859 the oldest daughter Elizabeth was married to Michael Musser. They settled on the 60 acres adjoining the Fye Farm to the west. The Mussers were great-grandparents of Mel Faldet.

Along the far west edge of the Locust Cemetery an obelisk marker shows Jacob was born 8 Jan 1818 and died 29 Aug 1900 at the age of 82. Susan was born 15 Mar 1809 and died 27 Mar 1893 at the age of 84.

Dianne, Victor and Julie Fye.

Victor Arlyn Fye was born in Chickasaw Co.  Grandparents were Frank Voyna (15 Aug 1886 -16 Nov 1947) who married Victoria Lundak on 20 May 1913. Victoria was born 20 Jan 1891 and died 29 Sep 1941. Flenry and Nellie Fye were the other set of grandparents. Parents of Flenry were Willard Marshall Fye (26 Sep 1903-SI Dec 1973) who married Mary Adela Voyna on 12 May 1937. Mary was born 23 Mar 1914 and died 25 Mar 1990.

I have one brother, Allen, who married Lavon O’Donnell 6 Aug 1966 and one sister, Elaine Marie, who married LaVern Gaul on 22 Jun 1968. I went to a country school for 8 years and continued my education and graduated from Cresco High School in 1958.

On 12 Jun 1960, I married Dianne Carol Otto at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA. Dianne was born in Alta, IA. Dianne’s grandparents were Emil Radke (6 Sep 1889-20 Jun 1968) and Rosa Langer (6 Apr 1894-25 May 1937). Henry Otto (7 May 1895-18 Feb 1979) married Anna Miller (7 Jan 1896-1 Nov 1986) on 12 Feb 1914. Dianne’s parents are Vernon John Otto (20 Jul 1916) and Mercedes Radke (7 Dec 1918) who were married 7 Dec 1938. Her brother, Wayne Vernon married Carole Richardson on 26 Sep 1959. A sister, Marlys Mae ) married Delbert Dodd (d. 2 Feb 1993) on 22 Jun 1961. Another brother Marlin Eugene (3 Jun 1943) married Geraldine Gesell on 22 Feb 1962.

In 1962 we moved to Decorah, IA where I was employed by Polly Meadows Dairy and Dianne worked for Decorah State bank. I am now a records clerk for Interstate Power Company and Dianne works for Norwegian Mutual Insurance Association. We have one daughter, Julie Renee, born 14 Nov 1970, Cresco. Julie graduated from Decorah High School and Luther College in 1993. She lives in Rochester, MN and is employed by Norwest Bank.

We are members of Decorah Lutheran Church, where I am an officer of the Ushers Club and Dianne and I are greeters. I have been on the Church Council. Dianne belongs to WELCA and has served as treasurer. We were members of the Minowa Square Dance Club and have held the office of President and NE Iowa Representatives. We enjoy camping and playing cards.

I am interested in the Decorah City Government and have represented the 5th Ward of Decorah for 18 years and am now serving as the Mayor of Decorah.
